The Family Farm
This is the house at the Simmons family farm, approximately five miles west of my home town of York, Nebraska.. My grandparents, Robert and Edna Simmons, bought the first piece of this farm in 1906 and raised my mother's family (it included three brothers and a sister) here. They built the house in the picture in 1928.
My sister Mary and I, along with our spouses, now own the farm jointly. Not long ago the four of us received an award for having kept a farm in the same family for more than 100 years; we're quite proud of that.
The farm serves as my escape from the rat race. I come here to work but also to decompress from the other strains of life at the same time. I enjoy getting my hands dirty, and I could run the tractor all day long and be completely satisfied. And sitting more than three miles from the nearest town, the evenings and nights here provide a serenity I can't begin to describe.
You can connect from here to a small sampling of pictures taken at the farm and family activities that have occurred there.
